SUSTAINABILITY
It’s good to be green.
At Skimmed Milk, we are trying to do our part to help minimise our environmental impact through our products lifecycle, along with our daily running . As a start-up, we aren’t as green as we would like to be right now. But as Skimmed Milk continues to grow and we are able to refine our operations, we hope there is a bright future ahead. .
SOURCING OF MATERIALS.
The materials we use for our products is the biggest way for Skimmed Milk as a brand to reduce our environmental impact. We research the best fabrics for the job, but at the same time consider how green each material we use is and the benefits for using it. We have worked with bamboo that doesn’t require pesticides and other nasties. We use recycled materials where we can. You can read how plastic bottles and other items are turned into activewear here.
For those products that aren’t using recycled elements, we will be making a donation to environmental charities.
Small changes leads to a better world.
IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT.
It’s a partnership. We aim to work with factories that are committed to environmental sustainability. Our fabric supplier looks at their water and energy use, cutting back on the volume of water used in the dying and fixing process. For our prints, we use sublimation printing which you can read about here.
We work with a specialist manufacture for our active wear that use technology to ensure the maximum number of garments are cut from our fabrics avoiding wasted materials. Nor do our factories produce any hazardous waste.
What happens to your product once the natural life has expired also matters. They can be recycled when you are done with them through your local clothing bank or through our recycled scheme launching soon.
WORKING CONDITIONS.
Skimmed Milk don’t own the factories we work with. Instead we have partnered with factories that take Employee working conditions and Health and Safety matters to heart. Employees are treated fairly in a clean and safe working environment with plenty of rest.
In order to create a product that you will love, we know we need a quality factory work force.
LOGISTICS AND PACKAGING.
How our product gets to us before arriving at your door can create a large carbon footprint. In order to minimise this, Skimmed Milk work with logistic partners sustainability matters and who are working towards being carbon neutral.
We ask you to reuse or recycle our packaging materials to help reduce the carbon footprint of your purchase. We have use recycled cardboard or card that can easily be recycled.
Some of our packaging elements aren’t as sustainable as we would like just yet. We still have initial stocks that we are still using before switching these out for greener items. But we have started to make little changes by swapping out brown packing tape for paper packing tape.
